Sunrise at Steveston Fisherman’s Warf

52 Week Photography Challenge: Week Two – Composition

The things a Photographer will do to capture a shot . . . My husband and I were up and out at 5am this morning to meet up with our Camera Club for sunrise shots at Steveston – a local historical fishing town.  The outside temperature recorded in our car as we were driving said it was -7 degrees Celsius.  It felt much colder, especially standing on a cement pier at 6am trying to capture that perfect shot!  Regardless, it was well worth the effort and freezing fingertips.  I have done a few edits to the original shot.  Exposure wise – I’ve only done slight tweaking to highlights, blacks and vibrance in LR4.  I opened the shadows a bit on the second edit to bring out texture in the roof.

I would love to hear comments and feedback.  This 52 Week Challenge for me is all about learning and growing in my craft.  Constructive feedback is very welcome.

I continue to fall more and more in love with my D800e every time I shoot.

Reflections of a Water Droplet

I played around with the D800E and the 105mm Macro today.  We had the sprinklers on in the yard, so I took advantage of the water everywhere.  I did augment a bit with a spray bottle where needed.  I was quite surprised when I blew up a shot of a flower to find this bee that was sopping wet.  I’ve cropped this quite significantly, and sharpened just a bit in LR4.  The second photo is a dahlia bud that was dripping water.  I did try a few shots with my 50mm 1.8 – but was not anywhere nearly as pleased with the results.  I tried some shots just handheld, some with the monopod, but the ones I did with the tripod were by far the most successful.  I have quite a lot to learn about this amazing lens . . . most certainly how to control depth of field.

My journey continues!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far

This is shot with my D800E at about 5pm, with the 70-200mm 2.8 VR II.  I’ve done just a bit of post processing in LR4 to  add contrast and color.  We tend to get a haze that hangs in over the mountains this time of year.
